Some Good Things May Last

There was a song that was popular about two decades ago and talked about some good things that do not last. The song was about love that was good while it lasted. Sad! It was probably a kind of love that wasn’t good in the first place. But in Paniqui, a few undoubtedly good things have happened lately. And it’s all up to the people here to make those good things last for a very long time, if not forever.

The first good thing is the inauguration of the new Barangay Hall in Poblacion Norte. The concrete and wood with which the hall was built may not be exempt from decay, as all material things are subject to, but the good intentions of Mayor Rivilla who orchestrated the building of the new hall will forever live in the annals of Poblacion Norte. The municipal hall of Paniqui gives the whole town a sense of legitimacy and a sense of solidarity. In the same manner, Poblacion Norte has just earned for itself its own symbol of legitimacy and solidarity. This is one good thing that should last for a very long time.

The Pamilihang Bayan ng Paniqui welcomes daily not only the local Paniquenyos, but also marketers from the neighboring towns and provinces who love to do their marketing in a clean, orderly surroundings. Again, it’s all up to Paniquenyos to keep this center for commerce bustling by keeping the environment clean and orderly. Then it will become another good thing that should last for a very long time.

Mayor Rivilla has put up his sixth job fair towards end of November to benefit his constituents particularly those who have been hit hard by the recent typhoons. The good Mayor had intended to keep the idea of a job fair coming back like a song to fulfill one of his campaign promises of making life for Paniquenyos a little easier. That is why every now and then a job fair is put up to help those in search for jobs here and abroad. Isn’t that a good thing whose benefits should last for a very long time?

In coordination with the office of the Mayor, the Philippine National Red Cross brought some relief assistance to the victims of typhoon Pepeng last December 9. The gesture brought a smile upon the faces of the victims. And if you think about it, the physical benefit of the gesture may be short lived but the smiles upon the faces of the typhoon victims certainly created a good thing that should last for a very long time.

Sometime early this year I think, I wrote about Mayor Dors Rivilla of Paniqui and Mayor Jojo Binay of Makati being both men for others. They both do a number of good things for their respective constituents. Paniqui and Makati have just become sisters through a Sisterhood Agreement between their respective LGU’s. I may not be privy to the written agreements but I’m pretty sure the good Mayor of Makati would not bother coming all the way to the good Mayor of  Paniqui if neither of them could see anything good coming out of the Sisterhood Agreement. Let’s all wait and see.

I don’t believe the song that says some good things never last. A good act always has an effect that lasts forever. For comments / reactions, please email: This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
