There You Have IT
Now that talks about the forthcoming election are in every nook and cranny of the country, many Paniquenians would like to know, but are shy to ask, whether the young, energetic, and driven Mayor Dors Rivilla is opting to run for a second term as mayor of the municipality of Paniqui. In a recent gathering of Pastors Association of Paniqui where the Mayor was asked to grace the occasion, he admitted that he would run again as mayor of Paniqui, amidst rumors that he may seek a higher position in the government. Every time election nears, there is an oversupply of political analysts. There are no fees to pay, no laws violated, and no time is especially appropriate to voice a political opinion. In my own humble opinion, there are two things that induce Mayor Dors to seek the mayoralty a second time: One, the first term has proven to be too short a time to fulfill the promise of his political slogan, Paniqui, Lipad Nang Umunlad!. Two, over this short period, the Mayor’s genuine love for the people of Paniqui has been enhanced, requiring him to prolong his close interaction with his constituents.

Why too short a time? When one commits himself to improve the services provided his constituents in the areas of health, education, and employment, it’s like promising a shangrila, a whole new world. The Mayor does not carry a magic wand which he can wave and presto everything he wants to happen for his municipality becomes a reality. Although we have seen, and we will continue to see, new things for Paniqui during the administration of Mayor Dors, three years will simply not be enough time to realize all the good things the visionary Mayor has in mind. A good part of his first term would have been spent laying down the foundation for a smooth governance and validating the blueprint for one holistic approach to providing and improving the services to the people.

There have been many nights and many quiet moments when the Mayor would just think about things that need to be done. Many of these things remain undone because they require more time and money. Some of them remain undone because certain obstacles along the way need to be crushed. But Paniquenians need not worry. Soon the young, daring Mayor will saddle up and, armed with determination and exceptional resourcefulness, gallop up the rough road to the progressive, peaceful, and happy town of Paniqui that vividly exists in his vision. And his genuine love for the people of Paniqui will enable him to convert his vision into reality. In no time. After all, didn’t we say before that Mayor Dors Rivilla, a man for others, is a true servus populi, a true servant of the people?
