Bagong Sinag is Born

Today, marks the Opening and Inaugural Launching of Bagong Sinag, here in our beloved hometown and my task is to represent Bagong Sinag, Disabled and Indigent Children Foundation  International (Philippines). I take great  pleasure to present to you Bagong Sinag in the Municipality of Paniqui.

Bagong Sinag was started by a couple who were born and raised in Paniqui and are now residing in Vallejo, California. Bruno and Elizabeth (De Aquino) Alonzo, Jr., a Certified Public Accountant and Medical Doctor, respectively thought of sharing their blessings they have from the GREENLAND. They hope other Paniquenians worldwide will join in and participate in a program with a main focus of providing assistance to the indigent and disabled children of Paniqui. And so Bagong Sinag was born.

A very well-thought-out Program Guideline in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding was released and given to Elena Reyes who, along with Aurelia Bautistal and John Riel Del Mundo, led the searching and screening of qualified children around Paniqui to be covered by the Program. The basic requirements are quite simple: 1) That a child has a perrmanent disability, physical or mental, 2) That parents are not permanently employed and have no source of other income or support. Copies of the Guideline along with Frequently Asked Questions were given to the families, and are also available to anyone upon request . The program is subject to annual renewal, or discontinuance based on availability of financial resources.

That result is what we are witnessing right now, in the Launching of Bagong Sinag.  Fourteen (14) children initially qualified under the guideline. With the core program of providing monthly benefit of 250 pesos in cash, the benefits started in October 21, 2009 through the current month of December. The assistance, paid only to the mother or custodian, is meant to be spent for the benefit of the covered disabled child - for foods, meals, clothing, footwear, medicine including expenses of transporation and meals for going to special education.

The founders believe, that helping out even for a limited number of months, or for a limited number of children is priceless. Doing something, even a little is better than not doing anything at all. Starting out with very limited resources, the founders were just glad and decided to move on with the launching of the Program. It has just been announced, that with the donations received as of December 22, 2009 from a mail out to selected Paniquenians in the US, Canada, UK and Germany in November 2009,  that such benefits will continue and is guaranteed up to the end of the year, through December 2010. All these children are attending a special program at the SPED located in Paniqui North Elemetary School and Tablang Elementary School, a pilot program by the Department of Education. To get the children connected to the word, Bagong Sinag recently donated a computer, printer and broadband connection to the internet at the Paniqui North Elementary School.

This day, marks a New Beginning , A New Life Shining Through. With Bagong Sinag, we are expecting more pledges and support to come in as we simultaneously open Bagongsinag.org website in the Internet.  This will encourage more kind-hearted fellow Paniquenians and their friends to join in this noble undertaking.  Last night, as we had opened our doors in the internet world, there were almost 100 persons listed signifying their good intentions to support the mission of Bagong Sinag.  It is true, indeed, the Grace of the Lord is abundant showering all the blessings from God to these SPECIAL CHILDREN who need special care from among us in order for them to be able to live like normal children without being inhibited or fear of being maligned and outcasted.

We may have started small but with your help, Bagong Sinag will expand its reach as far out as possible and increase the number of SPECIAL CHILDREN covered under the program.

On behalf of my big brother Jun Alonzo and Beth De Aquino Alonzo, we would like to welcome you all in the Inaugural Opening of Bagong Sinag in the Municipality of Paniqui and May God Bless us ALL! (by Honorio Alonzo of www.bagongsinag.org)
