The Barangay Council of Barangay Matalapitap headed by Punong Barangay Gerardo T. Chichioco in cooperation with the office of Mayor Miguel Rivilla held a free blood typing project held last May 07, 2008 at the Matalapitap Barangay Hall.

The project started at 9:30 am as lots of people came to avail of the free blood typing service.  The activity was supervised by the Mr. Chichioco with Mrs. Connie Agaid, Mrs. Mel Ramos, and Mrs. Luz Lopez (all Medical Technologist form Tarlac) performing the tests.

At around 12:30pm, 187 residents of Barangay Matalapitap have already benefitted from the project.

Blood types are classified as A, B, AB, and O.  It is important to know your blood type especially for employment as well as in times of emergency when blood transfusion would be needed to save lives.

Studies also shows that there is a relationship between blood types and susceptibility to different diseases, both infectious and non-infectious.

"Small as it may seems, this already saved our kababayans some time and money for they no longer have to go to clinics to determine their blood type." Mayor Rivilla quipped.

This early, other barangays have already signified their desire to duplicate the project started by Barangay Matalapitap.
